Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy. The EU Delegation Fiji promotes the local projection of an image of the European Union that correctly reflects facts, policies, statements and decisions taken by the EU.

We offer

We offer a post of Budget / Accounting Assistant . Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Budget / Accounting Assistant – this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation. Under this job function the successful candidate will serve as technical and support staff to the Finance, Contracts, & Audit Team under the supervision and responsibility of the relevant Head of Section: 


  • analysing audits reports and the correctness of eligible expenditures, 
  • assuring their follow-up, executing payments, and processing procedures of project cycle management in the context of the EU’s development policy.
  • Implementation of financial aspects of the external aid programme of the EU in the Pacific.
  • Analysing tender dossiers and contracts
  • Analysing the correctness of eligible expenditures,
  • Executing payments and processing procedures of project cycle management in the context of the EU's development policy.
  • Support to the implementation of the audit plan of the delegation

Finance and Payment Execution:

  • Financial initiator: checking payment orders, contracts and decisions
  • Recovery orders to be issued
  • Validation of bank accounts.
  • Encoding all transactions in EU Data bases
  • Follow-up financial  issues
  • To liaise with external and internal partners and to report on the financial status of projects
  • To collate and to process internal financial reports and statistics on EDF funds and projects as well as on audits and evaluations
  • To review and adjust procurement files

Audit and financial Verifications:

  • Initiating and carrying out expenditure verification mission
  • Analysing audits reports and assuring their follow-up.
  • Any other ad-hoc duties assigned by the HoS or HoD

The length of the working week shall not exceed the limits of 37.5 hours per week.  Exceptions may be allowed as required by the service, in accordance with the relevant Fiji legislations. The post is a Local Agent Group 2 level of the Specific Conditions of Employment for Local Agents in Fiji. It is a permanent contract, after the successful completion of a 3 month probationary period, with a minimum starting basic salary of FJD 2,584 per month (paid 13 times per annum).

Selection Criteria

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Medically fit to perform the required duties;
  2. Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law;
  3. Has a University diploma in Accounting or Business Administration;
  4. Three years professional experience pertinent to the duties carried out;
  5. An excellent knowledge of accounting and financial matters, internal control standards, and basic financial audit;
  6. Accuracy in financial management and advance computer literacy;
  7. A clean police record and should be able to produce a clearance report when requested;
  8. Must be a self-starter, motivated, and able to work independently and/or as a team member in a multicultural environment, respecting deadlines and
  9. A good command of English. 


The following will be considered an asset:

  • Some knowledge of other European language, in particular French, would be an advance.

The procedure


After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short-list of candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase which may include an interview if necessary – during this phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.


The candidates who have not been short-listed will not be contacted individually; however, the Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this Vacancy Notice to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
