The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 28 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The EU Delegation for the Pacific promotes the local projection of an image of the European Union that correctly reflects facts, policies, statements and decisions taken by the EU.

The EU Delegation for the Pacific office is located in Suva.

We offer

We offer a post of Project Officer. Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Project Officer – this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation. Under this job function the successful candidate will serve as support staff to the Economic and Social Team with the following tasks under supervision and responsibility of the relevant Team Leader:


  • Effectively manage projects in the domain of agriculture included in the Delegation's portfolio.
  • Act as Operational Initiating Agent for transactions related to the implementation of the above projects. Review and approve reports, certify requests for payments. Update and maintain relevant data in our information system (CRIS).
  • Monitor the implementation of actions against set measurable objectives and targets. Review and assess Result Oriented Monitoring (ROM) reports and implement and follow up relevant recommendations. Update and maintain implementation reports in CRIS.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent view of bilateral relations with selected countries, in particular Fiji .
  • Contribute to the policy dialogue at country level in the field of agriculture, including sugar. Provide relevant input and feedback to the Team Leader.
  • Assist the Head of Section in developing close contacts with local stakeholders, including in Governments and Administrations. Provide background and feedback for negotiations, including with local private sector representatives.
  • Contribute policy and implementation information to the communication material published by the Delegation (including on the Delegation Website and Facebook page).
  • Contribute to the achievements of the objectives of the Delegation's communication and visibility strategy.

The length of the working week shall not exceed the limits of 40 hours per week.  Exceptions may be allowed as required by the service, in accordance with the relevant Fiji legislations. The post is a Local Agent Group I level of the Specific Conditions of Employment for Local Agents in Fiji. It is a permanent contract, after the successful completion of a 3 month probationary period, with a minimum starting basic salary of FJD 3,908 per month.

We are looking for the candidate with:

  • A University degree in agronomy, economics, geography or equivalent,
  • Two years professional experience pertinent to the duties carried out. 3 years or more experience would be an advantage.
  • An excellent ability to understand, read & write in English; French would be an advantage.
  • A clean police record and should be able to produce a clearance report when requested.
  • Very good computer literacy with some experience in Microsoft office programmes.
  • Must be a self-starter, motivated, and able to work independently and/or as a team member in a multicultural environment, respecting deadlines.
  • Analysing and problem solving skills
  • Ability to conceptualise problems, identify and implement solutions
  • Capacity to analyse and structure information
  • Ability to communicate in meetings
  • Ability to understand and be understood
  • Capacity to communicate technical or specialised information
  • Drafting skills.
