The European Union Delegation to Ethiopia celebrated the International Human Rights Day on Wednesday 13 December 2017 at the Addis Ababa University (AAU). The event was organised in collaboration with the Office of External Relations, Partnerships and Communications, and the College Of Law and Governance Studies of the AAU. Welcoming speech was made by Terhi Lehtinen (PhD), Deputy Head of Delegation of the European Union Delegation to Ethiopia which was followed by a keynote address by the Academic Vice President and Acting President, Addis Ababa University Jeilu Oumer (PhD). The main presentations of the day under the theme ''Federalism and Human Rights in Ethiopia: Rhetoric and Practice'' were delivered by different presenters. The first of which was delivered by H.E. Amb. Johan Borgstam, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Ethiopia, under the title '' European Union Human Rights Policy and Cooperation with Partner Countries.'' The second presentation by Asnake Kefale (PhD) from the Political Science and International Relations was entitled ''Federalism and Minorities in Ethiopia.'' The final presentation was made by Wondemagegn Tadesse (PhD) on ''Federal, State and Local Governments and Human Rights: Some issues of Concern.'' This was followed by questions and answers session. Solomon Negussie (PhD), Dean, College of Law and Governance Studies, delivered the closing remarks.
This was the first event organised in the framework of the European Union Information Center (EUIC) at the Addis Ababa University. It aims to provide a platform for joint lectures and events. The MOU between European Union Delegation of Ethiopia and Addis Ababa University to establish the European Union information Center (EUIC) was signed in January 2017.
