EmaSwati youth skaters turn up for EU Skate competition

On 06 June 2026, the European Union (EU) in Eswatini continued to commemorate its 50 years of partnership with the Kingdom of Eswatini by bringing together more than 100 young people from Mbabane, Siphocosini and Nhlambeni for the Emaswati Skate competition held at the EU-supported Lafezeka Skate Park in Mbabane.

Opening the event, EU Ambassador to Eswatini, Karsten Mecklenburg, said: “Skateboarding teaches valuable life lessons. It encourages young people to overcome failure, persevere and develop skills that are essential in everyday life, education and the workplace.”

EU Head of Cooperation Eva Maria Engdahl welcomed the growing participation of girls, saying: “We are encouraged to see the participation of young girls and would like to see more of such inclusion in all sports.”
