The Conference aimed at gathering government officials, members of civil society and political analysts from six Eastern Partnership (EaP) countries, EU Member States, and representatives of the EU institutions. It is held in the framework of the Panel on co-operation in the area of Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) within the EaP Platform on Democracy, Good Governance and Stability, and is co-funded by the European Union.
This conference as a CSDP outreach activity that involves civil society and academia from EaP countries and it is second of a kind, the previous conference was held in 2014 also in Vilnius.
The event is co-organised by the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence and the Eastern Europe Studies Centre (Lithuania) in close cooperation with the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum, the National Centre for Strategic Studies (Poland), and the European Union Institute for Security Studies.
Discussions during the Conference focused on security environment in and around Europe, as well on possible ways for greater EU engagement with Eastern Partners in security related matters. The event also provided an opportunity for EaP countries to voice their security concerns and share their ideas on the future of CSDP. The Conference served as a good platform for Eastern partners to make their contribution to the ongoing debate on the new EU Global Strategy on Foreign and Security Policy. Organizers will be preparing a conference report, which will be presented in Brussels and sent for consideration to all those involved in the process of preparation of the new EU Global Strategy on Foreign and Security Policy.
