Joint statement by EU High Representative Federica Mogherini and UN Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict Virginia Gamba on the occasion of the International Day against the Use of Child Soldiers
Every girl and woman has the right to live a life free of violence and pain. And yet, more than 200 million women and girls across the world have been forced to undergo the painful and traumatic practice of Female Genital Mutilation, including 500,000 living in Europe. Millions more girls are at risk of being cut: 68 million girls in 25 countries by 2030.
Europeans and Arabs have a long and rich history of cultural, economic, commercial and
political exchanges. This, together with the geographical proximity and interdependence,
has contributed to institutionalise a strong relationship between the EU and the League of
Arab States (LAS). Within this framework, the common aim is to develop closer cooperation to
realise their shared aspirations to ensure peace, security and prosperity in both regions.
The European Union has launched a 3 year project with a funding valued at 3.1 million euros aimed at transforming the Egyptian Museum of Cairo (EMC). It will provide a unique collaboration between the Egyptian Museum of Cairo, the Ministry of Antiquities in Egypt and the EU in the fields of museology, Egyptology, archaeology, archaeometry and cultural heritage management.
