Ambassador Berger visits Matrouh & Siwa

Ambassador Christian Berger visited the Governorate of Matrouh including Siwa. In Matrouh, Berger met with Dr. Mostafa Al Nagar, President of Matrouh University. They discussed opportunities for cooperation under EU programmes, including Erasmus, Horizon Europe and the Partnership for Research and innovation in the Mediterranean (PRIMA). The current calls cover renewable energy, climate change, green transition, water management and food security. General Khaled Shoeiab, Governor of Marsa Matrouh Governorate hosted Ambassador Berger in his office. They discussed a range of economic topics focusing on tourism and agriculture, including EU funded projects. Ambassador Berger also met with members of Matrouh Chamber of Commerce. Discussions revolved around EU support in vocational training, export facilitation and other economic activities.

In Siwa, the EU in Egypt visited an Italian funded project with the Siwa Community Develpment and Environmental Cooperation Organisation and learned about successful new methods to increase the yield and quality of date farming. Berger also visited the EU funded conservation project of the Shali village that aims to preserve cultural and archaeological heritage leading to achieving economic and social development of local communities.
