On 26 July, the EU Delegation to Kenya hosted Kenyan Erasmus candidates for a pre-Erasmus+ departure session.

Studying abroad can be a life changing experience. This was also the consensus among the participants of the pre-Erasmus+ departure session organised by the European Union (EU) Delegation to Kenya. The session was attended by prospective students, Kenyan alumni and representatives from EU diplomatic missions. This September, 13 young Kenyans start an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's Degree.  These courses are placed at various European universities, with the Kenyan students departing among other countries to France, the UK, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic and Sweden. In addition to the various destinations, the Kenyan participants will also study a diverse range of subjects, such as photography, marine science and digital engineering.

In his welcoming remarks, EU Head of Cooperation Hubert Perr emphasised:

Erasmus is not only one of the EU's most successful programmes but also truly captivates what the EU is all about: getting along peacefully. In addition to the personal experience Erasmus has also shown to promote professional skills. I wish all Kenyan students the best of luck and  an enriching experience in Europe.

Erasmus+ is the EU's programme providing funding opportunities for cooperation in education, training, youth and sport between European and Partner countries. As a partner country, Kenyan students and staff members can apply for Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters' Degrees and short term exchanges. Since 2004, over 130 Kenyan students have completed an Erasmus Mundus Masters Degrees. More information is available here: Erasmus+ website.
