Description: The project is one of the pilot projects developed under the EU Annual action programme for Belarus 2011 and 2013 "Support to regional and local development in Belarus" that aims to promote dynamic regional development as one of the locomotives of the Belarusian economy, and an additional source of country's competitive advantage.
This project is targeting tourism as one of the drivers of economic growth in the regions and rural areas of Belarus, and it aims to improve the capacity of local stakeholders in tourism sector planning, management, and promotion in order to increase the competitiveness of Belarusian regional tourism products on the national and international markets.
The project has three components, logically and chronologically interrelated with one another:
Component 1: Preparation of a Sustainable Tourism Development Strategy and Action Plan for each tourism destination.
Component 2: Capacity Building Programme for tourism stakeholders and decision-makers.
Component 3: Support to the Implementation of the Strategies and Action Plans aims to provide support to selected actions in each Action Plan in a way that would ensure best European expertise transfer in the areas of tourism infrastructure development, its environmental sustainability, tourism events management etc.
Location: Belarus: Polatsk district and the city of Polatsk in Vitsebsk region; Belavezhskaya vicinity in Brest region; Myadzel district and Lake Narach in Minsk region; Mstsislau district and the town of Mstsislau in Mogilev region.
