Development effectiveness is about increasing the impact of our development cooperation to support those most in need. It ensures that external support is in line with partner countries’ own efforts and in support of priorities that have been agreed through inclusive and equitable policy processes. This builds countries’ ownership and ability to lead and manage their own development, while reducing dependency and increasing the value and impact of future external support.
The EU works to strengthen the effectiveness of its development assistance through budget support, Joint Programming with Member States and Team Europe Initiatives, supporting national policy-making processes and being aligned with national development priorities. See this video for a brief introduction to the EU approach to effectiveness.
