We are

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The EU Delegation to the Dominican Republic works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We are a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit.

We offer

We offer a post of a Driver. Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy the specific job function of a Driver – this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation. Under this job function, the successful candidate will serve as a technical and support staff to provide transport to the Ambassador, the Delegation staff and visitors. Assist, when required, with various errands for the EU Delegation office as well as the UE Residence under the supervision and responsibility of the relevant head of section. 

Main tasks:

  • Transporting the Ambassador, Delegation staff and visitors as instructed.
  • Delivery of official letters, parcels, etc.
  • Day to day maintenance and upkeep of the assigned Delegation vehicles.
  • Ensure that the Delegation vehicles are clean and in good driving condition.
  • Registration of mileage and other required information in logbooks.
  • Messenger tasks in the Delegation such as internal and external collection and distribution of official mail, errands and payments for the Delegation, various clerical tasks (e.g. photocopying, etc).
  • To participate in section meetings.
  • Back-up of the Office Support Agent (receptionist, documents registration and administrative support to all Delegation.
  • All other tasks requested by the Head of Administration.

Personal skills:

  • Excellent driving skills with abilities to drive with safety in difficult traffic situations.
  • Excellent knowledge of traffic laws.
  • Excellent knowledge of Santo Domingo roads.
  • Excellent knowledge of vehicle’s mechanic and maintenance.
  • Very good organizational skills and service minded attitude.
  • Capacity to assure quality, speed and accuracy in performing complex tasks in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations.

Selection Criteria

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Medically fit to perform the required duties. Excellent vision.
  2. Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law;
  3. Driver's license.
  4. Secondary school diploma.
  5. At least 3 years of professional experience in as a professional driver with an unblemished driving record and relevant to perform the tasks referred to in the job description;
  6. Excellent knowledge of Spanish and English:
    1. SP: ability to understand C2, ability to read C2, ability to speak C1, ability to write C1.
    2. EN: ability to understand B1, ability to read B1, ability to speak B1, ability to write B1
  7. Has good knowledge of computer tools, spreadsheets and MS Office applications and Internet use.

The following will be considered an asset:

  1. Professional experience with an Embassy or with an International Organization will be very advantageous.

 

Working hours:                 37,5 hours/week – Monday to Friday

Place of employment:   EU Delegation, Av Nicolás Pensón 85A, Sector Gazcue, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

Category:                            Local agent (Group 5 in the EU system) – Driver

Basic salary: $35,321.00 DOP to $56,676.00 DOP per month (bruto) depending on relevant and verified employment experience.

Extra-legal benefices:

  • Provident fund in euros: Contributions : 5% Employer – 5% Employee
  • Complementary medical insurance: Contributions: 3.22 % Employer – 1.37% Employee
  • Month 13
  • 24 paid leave days as from the first year

The procedure

After the deadline for applications, the applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee set up for this purpose. The Selection Committee will prepare a short-list of candidates who are considered to be the most suitable for the post on the basis of a preliminary assessment of the information provided in their application letter and the supporting documents. The short-listed candidates will be invited to an assessment phase which may include an interview if necessary – during this phase, the Selection Committee will assess the suitability of the candidates for the post.

The candidates who have not been short-listed will not be contacted individually; however, the Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this Vacancy Notice to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
