Today is the first day of Partnership for Good Governance II Mid-Term Results High-Level Event, which takes place online from now until October 7. The Partnership for Good Governance (PGG) is a joint project between the European Union and Council of Europe with the aim of strengthening governance in the Eastern Partnership region. In doing so, the PGG helps promote EU-Council of Europe shared values such as respect for fundamental human rights, the rule of law and pluralist democracy.
The PGG is now in its second phase (PGG II 2019-2021). With a view to taking stock of the results achieved thus far, this high-level event will feature special addresses from Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi as well as Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić. Not only does the event provide an opportunity to reflect on the results, there will also be a chance to analyse what lessons have been learned, and what are the challenges that lie ahead. These issues will be discussed in the live panels, which are also scheduled to take place. EU Ambassador to the Council of Europe, Meglena Kuneva will also contribute to the discussions. Ambassador Kuneva’s interview focuses on the work done by the PGG on combatting violence against women as well as the Programme’s broader efforts to achieve gender equality.
