Standing Together for Roma Inclusion: A Joint Commitment During Opre Roma! Month

Throughout April, the EU Delegation to the Council of Europe proudly joined the Council of Europe and its Member States in marking Opre Roma! Month, a celebration of the rich heritage, language, and identity of Roma communities across Europe.

The EU and the Council of Europe share a long-standing partnership in advancing Roma inclusion. Together, we work on joint programmes and initiatives such as the Roma Integration Phase III Joint Programme, which promotes equal access to education, healthcare, housing, and employment for Roma communities in the Western Balkans and Türkiye. This collaboration underscores our shared commitment to promoting and safeguarding social rights, tackling antigypsyism, empowering Roma civil society, and strengthening the voice of Roma youth.

On 2 April, the EU delivered a statement at the Committee of Ministers in the context of International Roma Day 2025, expressing commitment to uphold, protect and promote the enjoyment of Roma and Travellers’ human rights in Europe.

On 8 April, International Roma Day, the EU Delegation to the Council of Europe participated in a traditional flower casting ceremony, celebrating Roma history. By building on strategic cooperation, supporting inclusive policies, and amplifying Roma voices across Europe, we can move closer to a continent where every Roma person enjoys full equality, dignity, and opportunity.

On 16 April 2025, the EU Delegation to the Council of Europe participated to an Informal meeting of the Ministers’ Deputies on fostering mutual respect and understanding for vulnerable groups. The meeting was preceded by the “Opre Gala,” a cultural event celebrating Roma culture, featuring a fashion show and musical performances.
