Yesterday's parliamentary elections in the Republic of Belarus took place in an overall calm atmosphere. Nevertheless, it was a lost opportunity to conduct elections fully in line with international standards.
This year we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child - the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history that has helped transform children's lives around the world for the better.
The seminar was organised by the Permanent Representation of Finland as Chair of the Council of the EU and the EU Delegation in Strasbourg, in collaboration with the Permanent Representation of France as Chair of the Council of Europe. Its aims was to take stock of the current state of play, look at solutions to outstanding issues as well as to address the broader implications of the accession to Human Rights protection in Europe.
Roughly two thousand global leaders, politicians, activists, experts and young people from all over the world gathered in Strasbourg this week for the 2019 edition of the World Forum for Democracy, where they discussed democracy in the information age. Hosted by the Council of Europe, the forum provides a unique platform for debating solutions to key questions for democracies worldwide.
