EU Statements at the Council of Europe in May 2025

At the Ministerial Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, the EU Ambassador to the Council of Europe made an intervention reaffirming the EU’s commitment to supporting Ukraine by partnering with the Council of Europe to ensure accountability for crimes committed. The EU also welcomed the opening for signature of the Convention on the Protection of Lawyers and the adoption of the Convention on the Protection of the Environment through Criminal Law.
On 7 May, the EU delivered a statement at the Committee of Ministers in the context of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT) on 17 May. The statement reiterated the EU’s commitment to equality and non-discrimination, entitlement of all persons to enjoy the full range of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
On 28 May, the EU delivered a statement at the Committee of Minister on the Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, calling for a full, unconditional ceasefire of at least 30 days and reiterating its firm commitment to holding to account all perpetrators and accomplices of war crimes committed in connection with Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
