EU Delegation Engages Visitors at Fête de l'Europe in Strasbourg

The EU Delegation to the Council of Europe participated in the 11th edition of the Fête de l’Europe, organised by the City of Strasbourg, showcasing the dynamic relationship between the European Union and the Council of Europe. As part of the vibrant celebrations, the Delegation held a stand, offering a fun and educational game to engage visitors and raise awareness about the cooperation between the two institutions, particularly in areas such as human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

Which institution was established first – the Council of Europe or the EU? How many Member States are there in each? What about the primary objectives of each institution? These are just a few examples of questions participants had to answer at the stand of the EU Delegation to the Council of Europe on key differences and areas of cooperation between the two institutions. Citizens of Strasbourg and tourists alike participated in the game, providing a unique opportunity to engage and further discuss these important topics.

The stand was a central point of interest throughout the event, which featured contributions from a wide array of organisations and associations. Among these were the Médiateur Européen, Eurocorps, the European Court of Human Rights, and the European Parliament, each contributing to the diverse offer of information and activities. Local organisations like La T’Rêve and Unir l’Europe also participated, adding a grassroots dimension to the event.

Other key participants included the Mouvement Européen, Les Jeunes Européens, the Centre d’Informations sur les Institutions Européennes, EUR FUTURE, and the Erasmus Student Network, all providing additional opportunities for learning and engagement on European themes.

The EU Delegation’s stand was visited by Mr Thani Mohamed-Soilihi, French Secretary of State for Francophonie and International Partnerships, Ms Jeanne Barseghian, Mayor of Strasbourg, and Ms Fabienne Keller, Member of the European Parliament and Quaestor. Their visits underscored the importance of political representatives and European organisations engaging with citizens, fostering dialogue, and explaining their work to promote a shared understanding of European values and cooperation.

Many other organisations joined the celebration, making the Fête de l'Europe a true showcase of the collaborative spirit that defines Strasbourg as a European capital. Through its lively and interactive presence, the EU Delegation contributed to the event’s success, further promoting a sense of shared European identity.
