The European Union Delegation to the Council of Europe issues the following statement on the escalating tensions in the Azov Sea.
The tensions in the Azov Sea and Kerch Strait have increased over the past days, after an incident on Sunday between Russian and Ukrainian naval vessels.
We expect Russia to immediately release the Ukrainian crew and ensure the needed medical assistance to the Ukrainian servicemen.
We support Council of Europe Secretary General Jagland in his call to avoid any further escalation in the region.
