Launch of our Delegation's second book, titled "10th Anniversary of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Council of Europe and the European Union"

Yesterday 5 July 2017, was an exceptional day at our EU Delegation. We had the honor of receiving the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini as our guest here in Strasbourg and on that same day, we launched our second book in the delegation's history, titled: "10th Anniversary of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Council of Europe and the European Union". HR/VP Mogherini met Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland, after which she had an exchange of views the last Committee of Ministers before the summer break. The day was finalised with our Book Launch Event in the Committee of Ministers Foyer, with delicious food, beautiful piano music and speeches from the SG   Thorbjørn Jagland and our First Counsellor Jose Mendes Bota.

 

The anniversary book includes a forward from Ambassador of our European Union Delegation to the Council of Europe, Jari Vilén, and six articles by prominent persons: the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, the SG Thorbjørn Jagland, HR/VP Federica Mogherini, the Ambassador of the Permanent Representation of the Republic of San Marino to the CoE Guido Bellatti Ceccoli, the Former Secretary of the Committee of Ministers Mireille Paulus, the Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Strasbourg Sylvain Schirmann. In their contributions, the authors have shared their assessments of the past ten years and of the negotiations that led to the signature of the MoU, in addition to their predictions regarding the future of the EU – CoE partnership.

 

We would like to take this opportunity to warmly thank everyone who contributed to the this book and the whole process of making it, and also to thank everyone who participated our launch event yesterday, making it a success.
