The EU and Colombia are setting their ambitions high in upgrading their partnership in the field of security and defence. During the meeting, they discussed a wide range of issues encompassing security and the situation in their respective neighbourhoods, the future participation of Colombia to the counter-piracy operation EUFOR Atalanta in the Indian Ocean, cybersecurity, as well as academic cooperation. Moreover, police cooperation was discussed - Colombia is the only Latin American country with which Europol has an Operational Agreement. Besides, the organization in 2021 of a third CSDP Seminar for the South American countries and Mexico was also mentioned, even though a precise date remains to be confirmed given the pandemic situation.
The meeting was hosted by Mr Felipe García Echeverri, Ambassador of Colombia to the European Union, and co-chaired by Mr Pawel Herczyński, Managing Director for Common Security and Defence Policy and Crisis Response at the European External Action Service, Mrs Diana Abaunza Millares, Deputy Minister of Defence (Colombia) and Mrs Adriana Mejía, Deputy Foreign Minister (Colombia). Mrs Patricia Llombart, the EU Ambassador in Colombia, also attended the meeting from Bogota.
