Traineeships in Delegations

Are you a university student interested in international relations?  Is a working experience part of your course?  Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Colombia?


What we offer?

A traineeship of up to 6 months for students undertaking a compulsory traineeship as a part of their studies, within the Political, Press and Information (PPI) or Trade (TR) or Cooperation (CO) Sections of the EU Delegation to Colombia, starting in July - August 2019.

Traineeship in the Political, Press and Information Section:

The Political, Press and Information Section of the Delegation of the European Union to Colombia is in charge of reaffirming the European Union's support for Colombia's stabilization agenda in the area of peace and human rights. The Section also covers relations with the press, public and cultural diplomacy. 

Main tasks:

  • Following developments in relevant policy areas i.a. peacebuilding, human rights, foreign policy, green diplomacy, education, culture, science and technology.
  • Support the section with media relations, public diplomacy, web page, social networks, and drafting press reviews.
  • Logistical support with EU Member States, international organizations and civil society meetings.

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Knowledge in politics and international relations.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
  • Knowledge of social media would be an asset.

Traineeship in the Trade and Economic Section:

The Trade Section of the Delegation of the European Union to Colombia is in charge of following trade and economic developments of the bilateral trade relations since the implementation of the Trade Agreement that entered into force in August 2013.

Main tasks:

  • Analyse figures on trade and economic trends.
  • Monitor news impacting the Trade Agreement in force and world news on the European Union's statements, opinions and actions that highlight the name of the European Union worldwide.
  • Logistical support in the preparation of meetings related to trade and the trade agreement.
  • Prepare power point presentations for the section.
  • Assist to seminars, workshop and events relevant to the work of the section.

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • General understanding of international trade and economic matters.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required.

Traineeship in the Cooperation Section:

The Cooperation Section of the Delegation of the European Union to Colombia is in charge of following the development cooperation. It also ensures the long-term programming of aid and the management of programmes and devolved projects within the framework of the current external aid management.

Main tasks:

  • Organize meetings with donors, civil society and government institutions.
  • Prepare minutes of meetings
  • Preparing presentations of EU policy and international commitments on harmonization and alignment
  • Support evaluation and monitoring missions
  • Assist implementation of cooperation projects and support its proper registration in SICEC.

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required

Important information

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a compulsory traineeships (Article 9 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 - Unpaid compulsory traineeships for students already residing and studying in the host country)

All costs related to travel inside the country of residence, visa, insurance, accommodation and living expenses must be borne by either the trainee or the University.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
