Traineeships in Delegations

  1. TYPES OF TRAINEESHIP

The EU Delegation to Colombia offers the following types of traineeship:

1.  Paid (by EEAS) traineeship for young graduates with less than one year of professional experience:

 

Are you a young graduate interested in international relations?  
Are you curious to learn more about work in a diplomatic mission and how an EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Colombia?

What we offer?

 

A paid traineeship of maximum 6 months within one of the different Sections of the EU Delegation to Colombia.

Before applying, you are requested to examine the general eligibility criteria* for traineeships (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 - Paid traineeship for young graduates)

 

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. However, costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation and visa must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.

2.  Unpaid compulsory traineeship for students already residing and studying in Colombia:

 

Are you a university student interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work in a diplomatic mission and how an EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Colombia?

 

What we offer?

A non-remunerated traineeship of maximum 6 months within one of the different Sections of the EU Delegation to Colombia.

Before applying you are requested to examine the general eligibility criteria* for a compulsory traineeships (Article 9 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 - Unpaid compulsory traineeships for students already residing and studying in the host country).

 

All costs related to travel inside the country of residence, insurance, accommodation and living expenses must be borne by either the trainee or the University.

3. Traineeship for students of national administration schools of Member States:

  • Nationals from EU Member States
  • Students/civil servants
  • Receiving an adequate financing from the sending national school

 

4.  Traineeship for trainee civil servants of an administration in a Member State as part of their compulsory professional training:

  • Nationals from EU Member States
  • Status of trainee civil servant
  • Remunerated by the national administration concerned

 

5. Students, graduates and post-graduates who reside outside Colombia receiving financial support of their Universities:

  • Citizens of Colombia, nationals from the EU Member States or pre-accession States
  • Receiving financial support from a university or another public institution located elsewhere in the world that is at least equivalent to EUR 660.

 

For trainees coming from National Public Administrations, candidates are proposed directly by the sending institution through an exchange of letters between the EU Delegation and the National Public Administration.

 

  1.   MAIN TASKS:

We offer three (3) posts of traineeships. The following tasks will be attributed to the recruited person depending on the needs of the Delegation

  1. Traineeship Trade Section:

 

  • Prepare a regular newsletter on trade and economic developments in Colombia and with its main trade partners, including the EU.
  • Analyse figures and prepare reports on trade and economic trends.
  • Support the section in the implementation of the Trade Agreement between the EU and Colombia.
  • Monitor the Trade Agreement in force.
  • Assist in the preparation of meetings related to trade and the trade agreement.
  • Prepare power point presentations for the section.
  • Elaborate internal reports of different meetings.
  • Assist to seminars, workshop and events relevant to the work of the section.

 

  1. Traineeship Cooperation section:

 

  • Organize meetings of donors and of donors with civil society and with government institutions.
  • Prepare minutes of meetings and follow up on commitments in strategic meetings.
  • Analyse and systematize cooperation experiences.
  • Attend key seminars and events and draft information notes on policy issues.
  • Support evaluation and monitoring missions
  • Assist implementation of cooperation projects and support its proper registration in SICEC.
  • Support mainstreaming of key development aspects such as gender, transparency, Human Rights Based Approach, etc.

 

  1. Traineeship Political, Press & Information section:

 

  • Background research on EU policies and current affairs.
  • Following, analysing and reporting on developments in relevant policy areas i.a. peacebuilding, human rights, foreign policy, green diplomacy, education, culture, science and technology.
  • Implementation of the EU Delegation's communication strategy: media relations and outreach, public diplomacy, web page, social networks, newsletter.
  • Coordination with EU Member States, international organizations and civil society.
  • Logistical support to the Political and Information Section.

 

  1. DOCUMENTS TO BE PROVIDED BY THE SELECTED CANDIDATES:

Only preselected candidates should provide the Delegation with the following documents:

• Copy of the diploma (young graduates) or University letter requesting a compulsory traineeship (for students)

• Language certificates (other than the mother tongue)

• Extract from the "judicial record"

• Medical certificate stating that s/he is fit for work and have no infectious diseases (a certificate written by a general practitioner is sufficient)

• Passport/ID card

• Proof of financing (if financed by other institution).

 

The traineeship cannot start until the trainee has offered written evidence that he/she has suitable sickness/accident insurance. For expatriate trainees, repatriation coverage is compulsory. For Colombian citizens, "EPS" (health insurance) and "ARL" (labour sickness/accident insurance) affiliation is required.

 

  1. WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

  • The duration of the traineeship is limited to a maximum of six months and shall not be extended. In exceptional circumstances, for organizational reasons, the EUDEL may offer a shorter traineeship, of a minimum of one month.
  • Working hours: 37.5 hours per week.
  • Trainee shall be entitled to two days leave per month.
  • Trainees will be under the direct supervision of a Traineeship Advisor at the EU Delegation.
  • Visa: expatriate trainees are responsible for obtaining and covering the cost of necessary visa.
  • Travel: trainees have to arrange and finance their travel to the EU Delegation.
  • Accommodation: the trainee will have to cover the accommodation costs.

 

Due date reception of applications:  May 15th 2018.

Estimated start date: End July 2018.
