PUBLICATION NOTICE UNPAID TRAINEESHIPS FOR THE DELEGATION OF THE EUROPEAN UNION TO COLOMBIA

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 28 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organizations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The EU Delegation to Colombia has a tradition of offering opportunities for non-remunerated traineeships

Traineeships are addressed:

1. To students residing in Colombia, in the framework of an agreement with a local university, who undertake a compulsory or recommended training period as part of their course and are already residing in the place of training.

2. To students receiving financial support from a university or another institution but located elsewhere in the world.

For example, trainees coming from national administration schools like (ENA (French National School of Administration) or KSAP (Polish National School of Public Administration). States' public administrations, at national or regional level, independent universities or research organisations which do not set out to make profits for redistribution or are part of the public sector as defined in the national law of that employer.

We offer 3 posts of traineeships. The recruited person will be attributed the following tasks depending on the needs of the Delegation and under the supervision and responsibility of the Counsellor/Supervisor of the relevant section:

1. Traineeship Trade Section
2. Traineeship Cooperation section
3. Traineeship Political, Press & Information section
 

Working conditions:

  • No contractual relationship will be established under the traineeship and no remuneration will be offered.
  • Candidates selected will need to prove that they have adequate insurance and medical coverage. For Colombian candidates they must be covered by their university to an ARL (Administradora de Riesgos Profesionales)
  • Working hours: 37.5 hours per week (flexible with the trainee's academic obligations).
  • The usual duration of a non-remunerated traineeship should not exceed 6 months and no less than 4 months

We are looking for:

  • Candidates should be nationals from Colombia, the EU Member States or pre-accession States.
  • Candidates with no professional experience. Candidates are University students (in their 3rd, 4th, or 5th academic year).
  • Candidates who have already worked for an EU institution for a period of time, including (remunerated) Blue Book stagiares are not eligible for this traineeship.

Those selected will be obliged to provide the following documents:

1. Traineeship Agreement duly signed by trainee and University/Institution.

2. Medical Insurance Certificate letter covering trainee's traineeship period (i.e. valid medical insurance card).

3. University certificate.

4. Valid visa during the traineeship period for non-Colombian trainees.

Overall Purpose:

Colombia is a key trade partner for the European Union. Bilateral trade relations are increasingly important with the implementation of the Trade Agreement which entered into force on 1st August 2013. The Trainee will support the activities of the Trade and Economic Section

Tasks assigned to the trainee:

  • Prepare a regular newsletter on trade and economic developments in Colombia and with its main trade partners, including the EU
  • Analyze figures and prepare reports on trade and economic trends
  • Support the section in the implementation of the Trade Agreement between the EU and Colombia
  • Monitor the Trade Agreement in force
  • Assist in the preparation of meetings related to trade and the trade agreement
  • Prepare power point presentations for the section
  • Elaborate internal reports of different meetings
  • Assist to seminar, workshop and events relevant to the work of the section

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

Education and Training

University degree in economics, international trade, business, international relations, political science and related disciplines

Ability to work with Office programs (Word, Power point and Excel).

SKILLS

Linguistic Skills

Excellent knowledge of Spanish, written and spoken, and good knowledge of English. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an asset

Capacity to communicate clearly, present complex matters in a simple way and draft concisely

Personal qualities

Overall Purpose:

To assist the cooperation section in donor coordination and implementation of EU commitments on harmonization and alignment, as well as support to evaluation and monitoring of development cooperation programs

 

 

Tasks assigned to the trainee:

  • Organize meetings of donors and of donors with civil society and with government institutions.
  • Prepare minutes of meetings and follow up on commitments in strategic meetings.
  • Analyze and systematize cooperation experiences.
  • Attend key seminars and events and draft information notes on policy issues.
  • Support evaluation and monitoring missions
  • Assist implementation of cooperation projects and support its proper registration in SICEC.
  • Support mainstreaming of key development aspects such as gender, transparency, Human Rights Based Approach, etc.

  • University degree in international relations, development cooperation, social sciences, business administration or comparable
  • Additional training and interest on project management, communication, Results Based Approach and gender mainstreaming would be an asset.

Assist the Political and Information Section in advancing the priorities and values of the European Union. Developing bilateral relations between Colombia and the EU.

Tasks assigned to the trainee

Background research on EU policies and current affairs. Following, analyzing and reporting on developments in relevant policy areas i.a. peacebuilding, human rights, foreign policy, green diplomacy, education, culture, science and technology. Implementation of the EU Delegation's communication strategy: media relations and outreach, public diplomacy, web page, social networks, newsletter. Coordination with EU Member States, international organizations and civil society. Logistical support to the Political and Information Section.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

Education and Training

Academic qualification, preferably in international relations, political sciences, communication or related field. Knowledge of human rights and environment-related issues is an asset.

Ability to work with Office programs. Social networks and web site management tools are an asset.
