Delegation of the European Union to China

2017 China- Europe Research and Innovation Tour

The 2017 China- Europe Research and Innovation Tour (Tour) is the 5th edition of an ambitious awareness raising campaign through 10 cities across China. The Tour seeks to highlight opportunities for Chinese researchers and innovators in Europe, while promoting Europe is a key global destination for research, innovation and knowledge-creation. The Tour will demonstrate opportunities for creating win-win solutions offered by national and EU-level funding programmes.  It aims to foster better knowledge and understanding of European policies and instruments, such as Horizon 2020, which will greatly facilitate the success for joint research and innovation projects and endeavours. The Research and Innovation Tour is a symbolic visible sign of joint efforts between the Delegation of the European Union to China, the Embassies and Consulates of the EU Member States and Countries Associated to the Framework Programme based in China, and their key Chinese partners:  the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the China Science and Technology Exchange Centre (CSTEC). The Tour aims to reach out to a targeted audience composed of key R&D people, local authorities and disseminators in S&T, top scientists and decisions makers in research and innovation, professors, deans, doctoral and post-doctoral students as well as the private sector and business representatives, in particular SMEs, involved in R&D activities.

Each Tour event is tailored to provide a unique set of lectures and presentations promoting different research and innovation programmes. Moreover, attendees to the Tour events will be given opportunities to exchange views face-to-face with select European representatives. Highlights of each Tour seminar are inspiring testimonials from former or current participants engaged in EU-level or EU Member State/Associated Country national collaborative research programmes.

The 2017 Tour follows on from successful previous editions which attracted more than 2000 interested and experienced Chinese stakeholders all over the country for the last edition alone. The 2017 will present a unique opportunity for Chinese and European participants as it will feature the last three-year work programme of Horizon2020. The 2017 Tour will start on 27 October in Beijing, the day of the publication of Work Programme 2018-2020 of Horizon2020. The launch event will be hosted by the Italian Embassy in Beijing. The Beijing launch will also be the opportunity to announce the start of the new European Network of Research and Innovation Centres and Hubs (ENRICH) in China, supported by the Horizon2020 ERICENA project.

October is Science and Technology month at the EU Delegation. Dedicated Weibo blogs and Wechat posts as well as podcasts showcase the successes of the Science, Technology and Innovation in Europe and its cooperation with China. 10 projects of EU-China STI cooperation from different sectors are being featured.
