Universal Chlildren`s Day

20.11.2019

When the #TheReaChallenge campaign, promoted by the European Union and UNICEF on the TikTok platform, was launched last month, it was not expected to achieve such popularity. The numbers are clear: 280 million views, 19.8 million likes and 1.2 million shares, reaching an audience in 41 countries so far.

Today we come to the end of the social media campaign because on this day, 30 years ago, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted by UN General Assembly.

Every year, the Universal Chlildren's Day is observed on November 20. Now that we marked the 30th anniversary of the Convention, it's also time to reflect on challenges and to assess the progress made. But how, in particular, did the European Union Delegation to Uzbekistan contribute to the cause?• Children and migration: UNICEF and Women's Committee of Uzbekistan with our support launched a project to protect children affected by migration in the 4 regions of Bukhara, Fergana, Surkhandarya and Khorezm. The aim would be that of providing quality social services for families affected by migration and ensuring better access to child protection systems;• Children and labour exploitation: EU Delegation to Uzbekistan assists the Government in eradicating child and forced labour in the annual cotton harvest by establishing a credible monitoring system in line with ILO standards;• Children protection: several social activities are on-going in the enhancement of vulnerable children protection mechanisms in Uzbekistan, thanks to the cooperation with SOS Children's Villages. The work of the European Union and UNICEF does not stop with #TheRealChallenge. The European Union and UNICEF will continue to jointly protect and promote children's rights everywhere in the world – so that no child is left behind.
