Lisbon, Portugal, 3-4 May 2017
The China Ministry of Water Resources (MWR) and the China Europe Water Platform (CEWP) gathered on May 3 and 4 on the occasion of the Joint Steering Committee Meeting in Lisbon, Portugal.
The China-Europe Water Platform (CEWP) was established in 2012, when Ministry of Water Resources of the People’s Republic of China and the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, represented by the Danish Minister of the Environment, launched the CEWP at the 6th World Water Forum in Marseille, France, March 2012 by signing of a Joint Statement.
Considering the particular role of water as a crucial natural resource and its impacts on environment, but also on social and economic development, the objective of the China Europe Water Platform (CEWP) is to promote policy dialogue, joint research and business development in the water sector.
This meeting was an opportunity to discuss policy orientations as well as the current financing from the EU's Partnership Instrument through the "China EU Water Platform support programme". This support will enable the platform to strengthen its leadership role in the field of China- Europe water cooperation, based on mutual interest, mutual benefit and mutual funding.
“The support from the EU Commission is a very important contribution to the co-operation and policy dialogue between China and Europe on water management” says Head of the CEWP European Secretariat, Henrik Dissing from the Danish EPA.
EU member states as well as government agencies, research institutions, private sector companies and international organisations in both China and Europe will have another opportunity to gather this year, with the high level meeting in Turku, 20, 21 and 22 September 2017. The programme includes High-Level Dialogue Conference, Business, Research and Innovation events and technical tours. (more at https://www.2017cewp.org/)
