Joint Statements

The successful organisation of the presidential and parliamentary elections on 14 February in the Central African Republic, which took place peacefully throughout the country, shows once again the people's determination to take their future into their hands by democratic means. All the stakeholders and Central African institutions, and in particular the National Electoral Authority, did everything in their power to respond to the shortcomings that had led the Transitional Constitutional Court to cancel the first round of the parliamentary elections.

The European Union will continue to monitor the next stages of the current electoral process, in particular through the Election Expert Mission. The compilation and announcement of detailed election results and the management of electoral disputes are crucial steps for election transparency and credibility.

It is important that the atmosphere of calm be maintained in order to continue the process that will mark the end of the political transition and the definitive return to constitutional order.
The involvement of the international MINUSCA and Sangaris forces, which formed a partnership with the internal security forces, contributed to these elections being held in a peaceful atmosphere.
