SCI_ART 2025: The EU and OCAD University light up Toronto’s waterfront at Nuit Blanche 2025 with Dissolving Boundaries.

For the second consecutive year, the European Union through its Delegation to Canada and OCAD University’s Global Centre for Climate Action joined forces to illuminate Toronto’s Nuit Blanche with the city’s largest projection artwork: Dissolving Boundaries.
From October 4 to 5, the iconic Canada Malting Silos on Toronto’s waterfront transformed into a vast, moving canvas of light, water, and motion. Created by Italian artists Alessandro Grisendi and Marco Noviello of OOOPStudio, the large-scale cinematic projection blended choreography, digital art, and environmental reflection. Through this interplay of dance and projection mapping, the installation explored our complex and vital relationship with water, a call for reciprocity, reverence, and care.
“Dissolving Boundaries highlights our conviction that art and culture are powerful drivers of change and can play an important role in addressing today’s global challenges,” said Geneviève Tuts, Ambassador of the European Union to Canada. “In line with the EU-Canada Green Alliance, this initiative shows how cultural engagement can spark dialogue on sustainability and reaffirm our shared commitment to a greener and more inclusive future.”
“As a vibrant art and culture hub in the city, OCAD University is excited to participate in this year’s Nuit Blanche,” said Ana Serrano, President and Vice-Chancellor of OCAD University. “This piece invites people to reimagine water not merely as a resource, but as a living, intelligent force — a vital partner in our shared environment.”
The projection was co-presented by the European Union through its Delegation to Canada and OCAD U’s Global Centre for Climate Action, in collaboration with OOOPStudio, and supported by partners including Ava Animation and Futuretalk.
The European Union’s participation reflects its deep commitment to climate and green diplomacy, sustainability, and cultural exchange, reaffirming the strength of the EU-Canada partnership through creativity and innovation.
