Enhanced opportunities for security and defence cooperation between Canada and the European Union will be the focus of the 5th European Union Security and Defence Symposium, to be held Wednesday, March 20 at the Rideau Club in Ottawa.
The predictions made last year with regard to the growing importance of great power rivalries still ring in our ears. What is more, our strategic environment grows ever more unpredictable. Today, major powers openly challenge the rules-based international order and seek to promote alternative visions of a world divided into spheres of influence. Geopolitical rivalries stoke tensions and raise the alarm bell of a new “proliferation age” that risks escalating into inadvertent military confrontation.
We were thrilled to be back to Rideau Hall on 9 February for another edition of Governor General’s highly-anticipated celebration of Canadian and European winter traditions. For a fifth consecutive year, the EU challenge – knock over Teddy’s hat and win a prize – was a popular attraction.
Until next year!
