Le Canada est l’un des plus proches partenaires de l’UE. Notre relation repose sur le respect des principes démocratiques, des droits de l’homme et des libertés fondamentales, ainsi que sur l’attachement à un ordre international fondé sur des règles. En 2016, l’UE et le Canada ont signé l’Accord de partenariat stratégique et l’Accord économique et commercial global, ce qui a donné une nouvelle dimension à cette relation. L’UE et le Canada sont également des partenaires proches dans le cadre du G7 et du G20.

Canada is one of the EU’s closest partners. Respect for democratic principles, human rights and fundamental freedoms and a commitment to the rules-based international order underpin this relationship. In 2016, the EU and Canada signed the Strategic Partnership Agreement and Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, lifting the relationship to a new level. The EU and Canada are also close partners in the framework of the G7 and G20.

As we mark the International Criminal Justice Day, the European Union reaffirms its longstanding support towards the international criminal justice system and in particular its unwavering commitment to the International Criminal Court (ICC), as part of the EU's wider commitment to a rules-based international order.

The Council today adopted conclusions on the EU's priorities at the 74th UN General Assembly(September 2019 – September 2020). These conclusions complements the Council conclusions on strengthening multilateralism which were adopted on 17 June 2019.

The 17th European Union-Canada Summit will take place on 17-18 July in Montreal. European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker will represent the European Union. Canada will be represented by its Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. European Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström will also participate for the EU.

Le 17ème Sommet entre l'Union européenne et le Canada aura lieu le 17 et 18 juillet à Montréal. Le Président du Conseil européen Donald Tusk, ainsi que le Président de la Commission européenne Jean-Claude Juncker représenteront l'Union européenne. Le Canada sera représenté par le Premier Ministre, Justin Trudeau. La Commissaire européenne au Commerce, Cecilia Malmström, prendra également part à la visite.

The Council today adopted conclusions welcoming the publication of the first joint synthesis report of the EU and its member states on ''Supporting the Sustainable Development Goals across the world'' as an important contribution to EU reporting at the High Level Political Forum in 2019. The Council welcomes the collective contribution of the EU and its member states to the implementation of all Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across the world, leveraging all means of implementation, in support of the 2030 Agenda.
