Compulsory traineeship for students at the EU Office in Montreal (Canada)/Representation of the European Union to the International Civil Aviation Organization
We offer:
A traineeship of up to 4 months for students undertaking a compulsory traineeship as a part of their studies, within the EU Office in Montreal/ Representation of the European Union to ICAO Section of the EU Delegation to Canada, starting in mid-August (exact date to be discussed) 2025.
Our office is responsible for representing the European Union to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which is a specialised agency of the United Nations that coordinates the principles and techniques of international air navigation, and fosters the planning and development of international air transport to ensure safe and orderly growth.
Under the supervision and mentoring of the Head of Office/Representative of the EU to ICAO, this compulsory unpaid traineeship will provide a unique opportunity to be familiarised with the world of diplomacy and understand how the EU is represented in a key multilateral organisation. As the traineeship will cover the period the ICAO Assembly, which takes place every three years, the traineeship offers a rare opportunity to work in our office during this exciting period.
Our office is located in Montreal, at 1001 Robert-Bourassa Boulevard.
Main tasks:
- Assist in the preparation of the meetings of the ICAO Council
- Assist in the preparation of the ICAO Assembly in September & October 2025, period during which our Office will welcome a large EU delegation including high level EU Officials
- Support the communication activities of the Office under the supervision of the Head of Office/Representative of the EU to ICAO
- Assist in other activities of the Office
We look for:
Qualifications or special requirements:
- citizens of Canada, nationals from the EU Member States or States which have signed an accession agreement with the EU
- students enrolled in the 3rd ,4th or 5th university year
- undertaking a compulsory traineeship within the framework of their studies
- already residing in Canada
- no professional experience
- no previous experience of more than six weeks in the EU Institutions
- fluent in English
- fluent in French is welcome but not required
- knowledge of air transport is welcome but not required
- good writing skills
- interest and motivation

Important information to read before applying
Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a compulsory traineeships (Article 9 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 - Unpaid compulsory traineeships for students already residing and studying in the host country).
All costs related to travel inside the country of residence, visa, insurance, accommodation and living expenses must be borne by either the trainee or the university.
Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.
EU candidates who are already residing in the country of assignment must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation.
The traineeship can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation. In assessing the applications received, account will need to be taken of the current local and sanitary situation and its effects on traineeship possibilities.
