OTTAWA – Dr. Melita Gabrič has presented her letters of credence today during a virtual ceremony, officially marking the beginning of her four-year mandate as Ambassador of the European Union to Canada.

Ambassador Gabrič began her tenure at the helm of the Delegation of the European Union to Canada on 1 February, after serving as Ambassador of Slovenia to Canada since 2018. The appointment also comes on an important anniversary for Canada and the EU.

“I am deeply honoured to begin my mandate as the Head of the EU Delegation at a time when EU-Canada relations are closer than ever before. It has been 45 years since the EU opened its diplomatic representation in Canada. In this time span of almost half a century, the EU and Canada have developed a very close and strong partnership,” said Ambassador Gabrič.

“I feel fortunate to already have so many friends in Canada and to have already experienced the Canadian way of life; it has been a most rewarding experience and I look forward to this next chapter in Canada.”
