EU Ambassador Marie-Anne Coninsx and the Heads of Mission of EU Member States welcomed the Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, Canadian Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, to a breakfast meeting on 1 June at the EU Delegation in Ottawa. The meeting came in the wake of the recent visit of Phil Hogan, the EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, to Canada.
The meeting offered an excellent opportunity to exchange views on the tremendous opportunities for increased trade in the agriculture sector under the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). Minister MacAulay said that the 21st century will be the century of Agriculture, adding that with a fast-growing world population, Canada and the EU should work together to boost sustainable food production.
The breakfast was part of regular working meetings of EU Heads of Missions with leading Canadian personalities.
