2026 European Union Short Film Festival Announces Multi-City Edition Across Canada
The European Union and its Member States’ embassies and consulates in Canada, in partnership with Vision Méditerranéenne and the Canadian Film Institute, are pleased to present the 2026 European Union Short Film Festival (EUSFF), a special multi-city edition taking place in Ottawa, Montreal, Winnipeg, and Quebec City.
Building on the success of 12 previous editions in Ottawa and a strong expansion to Montreal in 2025, the EUSFF continues to grow in 2026 through a multi-city format across three provinces. This expansion reflects a shared commitment to broadening access to European cinema in Canada, strengthening cultural ties, and engaging audiences across the country.
This year’s programme features 27 short films from across the European Union, presented over four curated evenings in each host city. The selection showcases the diversity of European storytelling, spanning a wide range of genres, themes, and artistic approaches, offering audiences a compelling insight into contemporary European societies and perspectives.
The festival is delivered through a Team Europe approach, underscoring the European Union’s continued commitment to promoting culture and shared values as an important pillar of international engagement and partnership with Canada. This collective effort reflects a coordinated European presence in Canada, where diplomatic missions work hand in hand to promote cultural exchange and highlight both the diversity of European cultures and the shared values that connect them.
As a flagship cultural initiative, the EUSFF provides a platform for exchange, reflection, and connection. Alongside each screening, EU Member States will host Flavours of Europe, an on-site showcase of culinary offerings and cultural displays spanning different European national cultures, creating an experience that brings European creativity and heritage to life beyond the screen.
The 2026 edition, held during Europe Month, holds particular significance as it forms part of the 50th Anniversary of the Delegation of the European Union to Canada celebrations. It underscores five decades of a dynamic EU–Canada partnership, driven by collaboration across sectors and a continued commitment to bringing people and cultures closer together.
