SNRL Programme trains Tanzanian media on regional integration

 

The “Strengthening the National-Regional Linkages in SADC Programme (SNRL) has recently trained a total of 100 journalists from Mainland Tanzania   and Zanzibar on regional integration ahead of the recent SADC Summit in Dar E Salam.

The training held under the theme “Enabling inclusive and Sustainable Business Environment for Industrial Development” took place in Morogoro. The journalists were sensitized on key SADC Strategies (RISDP, SIPO, RIDMP, SADC Industrialization Strategy and priority SADC Protocols).

Other topics presented were; Reporting on SADC Regional Integration, SADC History, politics, economic and social issues, Tanzania’s engagement within SADC in the past, present, and future taking in to consideration Tanzania’s Chairmanship of SADC in August 2019.

Tanzania Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Juliana Shonza, who officially opened the training, called upon journalists to observe ethics and patriotism as well expose the public to the available economic opportunities in SADC. The Deputy Minister underlined the need for journalists to build awareness on SADC and its benefits for the country to the public.

SNRL is a partnership programme between SADC, the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) supported the training of media professionals on SADC Regional Integration at a request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation.
