Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in the Kingdom of Cambodia?

What we offer?

A traineeship of up to 6 months for a young graduate within the Cooperation Section of the EU Delegation to the Kingdom of Cambodia, starting on 01 October 2019.

We are an international team of around 20 people in the section (around 40 overall in the Delegation), originating mainly from Europe, as well as Cambodia. Our global objective, as set out in the EU's instrument for development cooperation, is to contribute to the reduction and, in the long-term, eradication of poverty in the country. We do this through development cooperation programmes and projects designed to accelerate Cambodia's progress towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goals. To enhance the impact of our work and ensure sustainable results, we work in close collaboration with the national and sub-national authorities, the Cambodian civil society and the private sector. In the same vein, we also ensure strong coordination with European and other development partners, present in the country. 

Main tasks:

  • Carry out analysis related to various sectors relevant for EU development cooperation in Cambodia, such as social sectors, governance, natural resource management, trade;
  • Assist in reporting tasks on development and planning issues, such as annual management plans, gender action plan, roadmap for civil society;
  • Draft background notes and briefings on various issues, where needed;
  • Contribute to the preparation and follow-up of monthly meetings of European Development Councillors, where necessary;
  • Assist in meetings, and draft minutes from these meetings, with national ministries, development partners, civil society and the private sector, as appropriate;
  • Assist in events, seminars and conferences and report back to concerned colleagues in the Delegation;
  • Contribute to contractual tasks related to projects, such as pre-screening of reports, contribution to terms of reference, drafting of letters/notes;
  • Support to the preparation and implementation of communication and visibility activities of EU cooperation in Cambodia, where needed,  particularly through social media;
  • Contribute to data and information collection and conduct small research tasks;
  • Produce infographics on development cooperation between EU and Cambodia;
  • Contribute to administrative tasks as required.

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Interest in – and some prior knowledge of – EU development policy and of Cambodia and South East Asia region;
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues in a responsible manner;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Excellent analytical and drafting skills;
  • Excellent English language skills;
  • Knowledge of French and / or Khmer would be an asset.

Important information

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship)

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travel inside the country of residence, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
