Agriculture in a Changing Time
“I gained knowledge and techniques that helped reduce the effects of drought by using less water and improving soil fertility. Besides that, I have learned how to develop a seasonal calendar and land use planning, particularly crop rotation, for growing vegetables”, said Mr. Men Khorn, one of the EU funded project beneficiaries living in Trach Khpos village in the Outdong district of Kampong Speu province.
"Now I am practicing these techniques and I am getting more yield than before, more than we need to just support my family’s consumption", he added.
Since 1995, through European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), the EU has committed close to €13 million for disaster preparedness projects in Cambodia. Under this programme farmers are getting training on climate change adaptation as well as new technical training on farming. The programme also focuses on disaster preparedness education and public awareness campaigns.
