EU and Cabo Verde launch cooperation on Electronic Identification and Digital Signature
The first EU – CV Webinar on Electronic Identification and eID/Digital Signature will take place on 21 – 22 May 2020 online.
The activity has been organised by the European Commission in cooperation with NOSI E.P.E (Núcleo Operacional para a Sociedade de Informações), making Cabo Verde the first beneficiary of TAIEX DEVCO support, not only in Africa, but globally. The Secretary of State for Administrative Modernisatin of Cabo Verde, Dr. Edna Oliveira, the Director General for International Cooperation and Development (DEVCO) of the European Commission, Mr. Koen Doens, the Director Neighbourhood East and Institution Building in the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) of the European Commission, Mr Lawrence Meredith, the EU Ambassador to Cabo Verde, Mrs Sofia Moreira de Sousa, and the CEO of NOSI, Carlos Pina Tavares, will open the event at 9am.
The aim of the webinar is to support local authorities in the development of digital functions of National Identification Cards and Electronic Passports. Public experts from Estonia, Greece and Germany will provide advice on how to support mobile authentication and integration with international subsystems and how to promote digitalisation and innovation in Cabo Verde.
The webinar will gather about 20 participants from local public and private institutions related to national identification, home affairs, digitalisation, justice, borders, migration, economy, electoral processes and taxation.
This event marks the launch of a new technical cooperation instrument of the European Commission that brings together rapid technical assistance and development cooperation under the name of TAIEX DEVCO.
TAIEX DEVCO will support institution building through cooperation of public experts of EU Member States with their peers in Partner Countries, thereby reinforcing implementation of the Africa - Europe Alliance for sustainable Investment and Jobs. TAIEX DEVCO is the Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument (TAIEX) designed for partner countries and territories covered by the Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development (DEVCO). It provides rapidly mobilised short-term technical support using European Union Member States’ public sector experts in response to requests for assistance from public institutions in partner countries. In order to ensure the maximum impact, TAIEX DEVCO aims at strengthening the national development policy context and supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, in line with the EU commitments to the Agenda 2030.
