The Delegation of the EU to Botswana and SADC #OrangeTheWorld at the office, on social media and at the event “Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All - Women’s rights in Botswana”.

 

The Delegation and the University of Botswana held a joint event to commemorate the International Human Rights Day and 16 Days of Activism under the titel “Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All - Women’s rights in Botswana”.

Dionyz Hochel, Head of the Political, Press and Information section at the EU Delegation gave the opening statement, where he underlined that the EU sends the unwavering message that all forms of violence against women, girls and boys are unacceptable.  And that the 16 Days of Activism campaign seeks to highlight that gender based violence is a universal phenomenon which takes many forms across culture, race and class, and is also a grave violence of human rights.

The opening statement was followed, by a short video and powerful reading of testimonies of sexual harassment in Botswana by the Feminist Alliance of Botswana.

The panel discussion consisted of four panellist representing gender from a legal perspective, gender and disability rights, indigenous women’s rights, and the rights of the girl child.
