European Mobility Week in BiH ends with hundreds supporting sustainable transport

European Mobility Week in Bosnia and Herzegovina culminated in Car Free Day on September 22, where cities temporarily closed main streets to car traffic and allowed cyclists to take part in traditional recreational activities aimed at promoting sustainable urban mobility.

Cyclists of all ages filled the streets of Banja Luka and Mostar, combining a passion for biking with a strong message in support of cleaner air and healthier living. The impressive turnout highlighted a growing awareness of cycling as a sustainable alternative to car travel. Events like Two Wheels are Enough and the 5th Mostar Cycling Race gave citizens a fresh perspective on their urban spaces, inspiring a sense of connection to their cities and encouraging more people to choose walking, cycling, or public transport over driving.

European Mobility Week was marked across Bosnia and Herzegovina with recreational and educational activities organised by local administrations in cooperation with organisations and partners to highlight the need to raise awareness about improving public health and implementing sustainable and healthier options for all citizens. The activities highlighted the vital role of sustainable urban mobility in creating healthier and more livable environments for all citizens.

This year’s theme “Mobility for Everyone” advocates for a society where all people can access sustainable transport, regardless of income, location, gender or ability. European Mobility Week calls on individuals and administrations across Europe to envision and work towards a future where transport services are available, accessible, affordable, inclusive and safe, ensuring that public transport, walking and cycling are viable options for everyone.

European Mobility Week, the European Union’s leading initiative to raise awareness of sustainable urban mobility takes place every year from 16 to 22 September with the increasing participation of cities, organisations and initiatives across Europe and the world. This European initiative promotes behavioural changes in favour of active mobility, public transport and other clean, intelligent transport solutions.
