Erasmus+ Students Kick Off New Chapter in Sarajevo

Europe House, in partnership with the University of Sarajevo hosted a welcome day for incoming international Erasmus+ students, celebrating the start of an academic and cultural journey in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The students were welcomed by Ambassador Luigi Soreca, Head of the Delegation of the EU in BiH and EU Special Representative to BiH, who underlined the significance of this flagship EU programme for academic mobility. “It is a great pleasure to greet you as you begin your Erasmus+ journey in this remarkable country. You are now part of a truly European experience: one that transcends borders, languages, and cultures, and represents the true spirit of European unity and cooperation. This programme is more than an academic exchange; it is an opportunity to build friendships, deepen mutual understanding, and contribute to a more united and connected Europe,” said Ambassador Soreca.

The activity also featured a presentation held by representatives of the University of Sarajevo introducing incoming students to the cultural and historical landscape of their host city as well as an orientation session designed to help students navigate life and studies at the University of Sarajevo. This year’s welcome day celebrated students arriving from Austria, Czechia, Finland, France, Croatia, Italy, Germany, Poland, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Tajikistan and Turkey.

Erasmus+ is the European Union’s flagship programme for education, training, youth, and sport, offering students and young professionals the unique opportunity to study, volunteer, and gain invaluable experience abroad. As part of this broader European vision, Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to actively participate in the Erasmus+ programme, welcoming a growing number of international students each year and sending more local students abroad.

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s participation in Erasmus+ has grown significantly over the years, with thousands of local students benefiting from exchange opportunities abroad and an increasing number of international students choosing BiH as their Erasmus+ destination.
