On the commemoration of innocent civilian victims in Bratunac

Yesterday, the EU Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with diplomats from EU member states, honoured the memory of the innocent civilian victims killed in the Birač area surrounding Bratunac between 1992 – 1995, and the innocent civilian victims only.

We unequivocally condemn the perpetrators of all atrocity crimes. International and domestic courts have exhaustively examined the events that took place during the 1992 – 1995 war and established a clear judicial record about atrocity crimes that were committed, including the genocide in Srebrenica.

During the 1992 – 1995 war, large numbers of innocent civilian victims were killed across Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is important to remember all of them. Each has loved ones that remember and mourn them. It is in their memory that a wreath was laid. The cemetery in Bratunac where the wreath was laid is the local town cemetery, in which innocent civilian victims from the 1992 – 1995 war were laid to rest too. Claims that the cemetery is a military cemetery or contains only military fatalities are false.

By laying a wreath in Bratunac, our sole intention was to demonstrate empathy, respect, and understanding for the suffering of all innocent civilian victims.
