Conflict prevention, peace and economic opportunities for youth programme
Kenya is a lower-middle income country but despite economic progress, poverty and economic inequality remains relatively high particularly in rural areas. There has been insecurity for many years as a result of competition for land and resources, ethnic conflicts, armed civilians operating as bandits or criminal groups particularly in areas with a history of marginalisation. This programme funded by the European Union under the Emergency Trust Fund for stability 6 500 young people will be better empowered to access economic opportunities. The project will provide vocational training, awareness and orientation in career guidance and counselling to increase employability of young people. The project will also provide training on entrepreneurship, start-ups or access to micro-financing with a view to establishing businesses, co-operative societies for farming communities and linkages with the private sector.
