Multilateralism is more than a word! It means international cooperation in today’s interconnected world.
The challenges we face – from climate change to global health - show that cooperation between States is more important than ever.
The EU Delegation of the European Union to the United Nations Office in Geneva initiated an outdoor photo exhibition in partnership with the UN and the City of Geneva because we firmly believe that multilateralism is the best way to respond to global challenges of the 21st century.
The exhibition pays tribute to the work of Geneva-based multilateral institutions and the benefit it brings to people across the world. Over 30 international organisations show the impact their work in Geneva has for citizens around the globe.
It is on display at Geneva’s Quai Wilson throughout the month of September.
The vernissage took place on 6 September 2021 with opening remarks by EU Ambassador Lotte Knudsen, High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, WIPO Director General Daren Tang and Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees Kelly Clements. The women choir Tao Mousso accompanied the opening ceremony.
"I am very proud to open the exhibition today, because it really captures the essence of what we, as the European Union, believe in: Multilateralism Matters because Multilateralism Works. The word ‘Multilateralism’ may sound a bit technical to a wider public – but if we simply say ‘international cooperation’ you will notice that the idea behind this is actually supported by a large majority of people," said EU Ambassador Knudsen at the opening of the exhibition.
