We are

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organisations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The EU Delegation to the Bangladesh, Dhaka works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We are a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the Bangladesh government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit.

We offer

The post of Driver (Local Agent Group 5) in the Delegation’s Admin Section. The team consists of 16 people and there are occasional a typical working hours.
 

Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation, and on the changes of these needs. The successful candidate will serve under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Administration Section, providing support, expertise and assistance in the relevant field.

 

Following main tasks and duties are currently required: 

Under the supervision of the Head of Administration, Drive defensively to ensure safety and follow the traffic laws. Possess excellent organisational and time management skills.  Drive employees in different locations in safe manner. Distribute mails to Government of Bangladesh offices, Embassies, and other local and international organisations.

+ Driving staff members, high-level visitors, Logistical Support. Deliver and receive goods and documents

  • Responsible for driving the staff members to their destinations in a safe and timely manner.
  • Drive dignitaries visiting from Europe and elsewhere in the world.
  • Transport goods and/or documents in a timely manner.
  • Deliver mail and or other documents to the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Embassies and other international and local organisations as required.
  • Be available outside standard hours in case of emergency and during missions.
  • Research and plan for traffic, construction and weather delays.
  • Use navigation applications to determine the best route
  • Maintain a professional appearance by ensuring good personal hygiene, and wears a clean and ironed uniform at all times.
  • Establishes good and considerate working relationships with all staff in the organisation, demonstrating respect for their own roles and responsibilities;
  • Ensure that the vehicle is always fueled and ready for use.
  • Keep mileage records and repair records up-to-date.
  • Interact with staff members professionally at all times.
  • Arrange for vehicle repairs as needed.
  • Affairs, Embassies and other international and local organisations as required.
  • Ensure that the vehicles are used correctly, kept clean, perform daily vehicle checks, and report maintenance needs promptly.
  • Keep liaison with MOFA, HOME Ministry, Airport and BRTA as required.
  • When required, drive visitors to airport and ensue correct departure requirements are fulfilled.
  • Ensure compliance with local administrative procedures required in the event of an accident.

 

The base salary will depend on relevant and verified employment experience, typically starting from BDT. 42,803. There is a competitive benefits package, subject to certain conditions, including personal leave days and public holidays, health insurances and a retirement savings plan.

The expected start date will be 01/04/2023. 

Minimum requirements / eligibility criteria (necessary for the application to be considered):

  • Secondary School Certificate equivalent to "O" level
  • 5 years' experience needed for this specific job and should have a valid Light and  Medium driving license. 
  • Proficient in both Bangla and English writing and oral skills.
  • Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under local law;
  • Medically fit to perform the required duties.

 

Assets / selection criteria (basis for awarding points to select the best applicant):

  • Should have excellent organisational and time management skills and ability to respect deadlines; deal with stress situations, and good negotiation skills.
  • Self-starter, problem-solver, self-motivated, ability to work alone and in a team
  • Working knowledge in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.
  • Previous working experience with International Organisations and/or Embassies, Multilateral donors etc. will be an asset.

The process

After the deadline for applications, the eligible applications will be admitted to the Selection by the Committee set up for this purpose.

Depending on the number of applications received, successive phases of Selection may include shortlisting of candidates based assessment of the information provided in the cover letter, CV and in the letter of motivation; practical testing and interviews. Only the best candidates will be invited to the final interview, test, presentation or whatever final phase is most suitable.

Only candidates admitted to each successive selection phase will be contacted individually. The Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this job advertisement to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
