Meet Nusrat

I’m Nusrat Jahan, and cricket has been my passion for as long as I can remember. Whether I’m training for a big match, perfecting my spin bowling, or playing with my teammates after school, cricket gives me confidence, purpose, and a sense of belonging.

Thanks to clean energy, the floodlights stay on at our training grounds, allowing me to keep playing long after school ends.

With every extra hour on the field, I sharpen my skills, push my limits, and move closer to my dream of representing Bangladesh on the international stage. I believe in making the most of every opportunity—both in cricket and in the way we use energy. That’s why I embrace sustainable solutions.

Meet Selim

I’m Selim Molla, and my e-rickshaw is more than just a vehicle—it’s my path to a better future. Every day, I navigate the streets of Kaligonj, helping passengers get where they need to go while securing a steady income for my family.

Thanks to clean energy powering my rickshaw, I can drive longer, save on fuel costs, and work more efficiently.

With every ride I take, I move closer to my dream of owning my own vehicle, providing for my children’s education, and building a brighter future. I believe in progress—both on the road and in the way we think about energy. It’s the way forward, for us and our children.

Reduced environmental impact and improved safety in the clothing industry

Global Gateway initiative

The programme, co-funded by the EU, focuses on implementing safety upgrades, reducing environmental impact, and improving worker well-being in the clothing industry. Through this initiative, factories can access various measures such as enhanced fire protection, electrical safety systems, and stronger building structures; the installation of rooftop solar panels, energy-efficient machinery, wastewater treatment facilities, and pollution control systems; and improvements in workplace well-being, including better working conditions, support for working mothers, and medical amenities. This initiative benefits over 150 factories, directly enhancing the working conditions of around 250,000 workers, many of whom are women, while boosting the sector’s global competitiveness.

More reliable and efficient electricity in Dhaka

Global Gateway initiative

The programme supported by the EU aims to enhance the quality and efficiency of electricity distribution in Dhaka. By modernising the power grid, the project will reduce energy losses, improve system stability, and contribute to significant CO2 emissions savings. The initiative will directly benefit over 1.1 million people in Dhaka, providing them with a more reliable and efficient electricity supply. Through this project, the city is taking a step toward a more sustainable and resilient energy future.

Supporting the shift towards green energy

Global Gateway initiative

The initiative aims to accelerate Bangladesh's shift to sustainable energy, focusing on renewable energy and energy efficiency. By 2029, the project will improve the legal framework, boost capacity in the energy sector, and foster green energy job opportunities, especially for women and young professionals. The initiative will strengthen the energy sector, enhance awareness, and improve investment in green energy, directly benefiting millions of Bangladeshis by providing cleaner, more reliable energy and inclusive employment.

Bangladesh renewable energy facility – more reliable, clean energy

Global Gateway initiative

The Bangladesh Renewable Energy Facility, funded by the EU, will significantly improve energy access for citizens, particularly in rural areas, by adding 750 MWp of renewable capacity through solar, wind, and battery storage projects. This initiative will strengthen the national power grid, enhance connectivity, and ensure more reliable and sustainable energy for households and communities. By reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting energy efficiency, the project will not only support Bangladesh’s transition to cleaner energy but also improve the quality of life for citizens across the country.
