Dear Visitor,
Welcome to the website of the Delegation of the European Union to Azerbaijan! This site is designed to provide you the information and guidance on EU-Azerbaijan relations, on the EU in general and on the work our Delegation in particular.
Since the early 1990's, soon after Azerbaijan regained its independence, the relationship between the EU and Azerbaijan has evolved into a close and dynamic partnership, based on shared values and objectives. The mechanisms of cooperation were broadening into the wide range of areas such as political dialogue, energy, human rights, security, culture, economic development and diversification, trade, transport and environment. Specific sectors such as regional and rural development, justice and education have benefitted from significant financial support through EU projects and programmes. The EU is the largest foreign grant donor to Azerbaijan to both government and civil society. Since 1992, the EU has made available over 600 million EURO of bilateral EU assistance to Azerbaijan.
The visits of Donald Tusk, President of the European Council in July 2015, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini in February 2016 as well as the visit of the Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn in June 2017 were clear signals of EU's willingness to continue strengthening and broadening our relations.
Azerbaijan and the EU have a clear common ambition to deepen political contacts, to accelerate economic integration and to develop cooperation in the framework of the Eastern Partnership and the European Neighbourhood Policy. Currently we put our efforts in negotiations of the new comprehensive agreement which will bring new quality to our relations and additional tangible benefits to our people.
It is great honour and privilege to represent the European Union in Azerbaijan. I will spare no efforts in broadening and strengthening EU cooperation with Azerbaijan based on shared interests and common values. Together with the EU Member States present in Azerbaijan, we will continue to help enhancing the EU-Azerbaijan partnership for the ultimate goal of peace, stability and prosperity in the South Caucasus.
I encourage you to find out more about the EU, its relations with Azerbaijan and its activities on the ground.
