EU in Australia Lights Up the Night to Stop Gender-Based Violence

The EU Delegation to Australia has joined the #orangetheworld initiative in solidarity with the victims of gender-based violence. Several public diplomacy activities were put in place to recognise this important issue and create awareness of the first anniversary of the EU Gender Action Plan III.

25 November marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The EU Delegation to Australia has decided to join efforts with UN Women and launch a social media campaign to stand against all type of gender-based violence. 

The campagin consisted in several activities: 

  • The EU Heads of Mission got together to champion the cause and prioritize the prevention of gender-based violence

  • The social media profiles of the Delegation were switched to orange to start 16 days of activism in solidarity for the victims

  • The EU Delegation to Australia was lit up in orange during the nights of 24 November and 25 November to celebrate the 1st Anniversary of the EU Gender Action Plan III, an ambitious EU policy to achieve a gender equal world and empower women and girls
