The European Union (EU) is a union between 28 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with States and international organizations. The EU is represented throughout the world by more than 140 diplomatic representations, known as Delegations of the EU. 

The Delegation of the EU to Australia was established in 1981 and is located in Yarralumla, Canberra. The Delegation is responsible for the conduct of official relations between Australia and the European Union. The Delegation works closely with the diplomatic missions of its Member States.

We offer

We offer a post of Driver/Handyman. Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation. Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Driver/Handyman - this job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation. Under this job function the successful candidate will serve as support staff to the Administration Section under the supervision and responsibility of the relevant Head of Administration section.

This is a full time permanent position. It's a competitive position in an international environment with superannuation and medical insurance.

We are looking for

We are looking for a motivated person with at least 5 years' relevant experience in the field as a Driver, light handyman to execute work under the guidance of the Head of Administration Section.

 

Job title:         Driver/Handyman ­– Administrative support

Overall purpose:  To drive the Delegation’s vehicles and provide general logistical and administrative support

 

Functions and duties:

Logistic Support: Driving and car maintenance

  • Drive the Delegation’s vehicles.
  • Ensure the transport of the Head of Delegation and, when possible or need, other Delegation staff and, when appropriate, official visitors.
  • Determine when and what kind of maintenance the vehicle needs.
  • Ensure cleanliness and sound running of the vehicle and organize repairs where necessary.
  • Deliver official mail from the Delegation to Australian government departments, other embassies, and other recipients as necessary.
  • Collect supplies and equipment for the Delegation or Residence.

Logistic Support: General logistic support

  • Perform occasional light handy work at the Delegation, such as hanging of pictures, changing a light bulb, or helping with displays.
  • Assist other members of Delegation staff with logistical tasks related to receptions, functions or exhibitions as required.
  • Small reparations, clearing out of discarded material, etc
  • Undertake other minor office duties as required.

Administrative and Logistic Support: Administrative support

  • Keep up-to-date (under the responsibility of the Head of Administration) the Delegation and Residence inventories (using ABAC Assets)
  • Back –up to the reception
  • Light administrative duties
