14 October 2020 - Event on Rights of the Child

Virtual event on the Rights of the Child

The EU Delegation and the Permanent Mission of Uruguay, in collaboration with UNICEF, will host an online forward-looking panel discussion with a specific focus on children’s rights in the digital environment.  This event will take place following the release of the Secretary-General's report on the Rights of the Child (2020), in anticipation of the upcoming issuance of the Committee on the Rights of the Child’s General Comment on the topic, and in the context of the global COVID-19 pandemic that has resulted in millions of children increasingly relying on online platforms for information, learning, education, recreation and leisure. This increased reliance also continues to expose children to the risk of violence, exploitation and abuse, (including sexual exploitation and abuse) and has made explicit the existing ‘digital divide’ and deep-seated and systemic inequalities.
