Delegation of the European Union to Armenia

EVENT: STOP COVID-19 – TRACING MATTERS: Technology and contact tracing in the EU - Experience of Germany and Latvia

07/07/2020 - 16:21

The briefing will discuss the European approach to contact tracing defined in the “EU toolbox for the use of mobile applications for contact tracing and warning” developed by the EU Members States, with support by the European Commission. The toolbox aims to ensure that applications for contact tracing in the EU follow the same standards regarding privacy, cybersecurity and interoperability. We will hear best practices and lessons learnt from Germany and Latvia, where systematic manual tracing of contacts was part of the policy to contain the spread of the virus until the apps have been developed. We will discuss tracing from the policy, technology and human rights perspectives.
